The album is the first to feature guitarist Rafael Trujillo, who replaced Tom Geldschläger in 2015. Diluvium is also marked as the last album of the band's four-album concept series, along with Cosmogenesis (2009), Omnivium (2011) and Akróasis (2016). All lyrics written by Steffen Kummerer. In a saturated genre with songs running at maximum tilt with each new band trying to out-note each other, Obscura assumes a parental role, showing aspiring bands yet again, that at the end of the day, catchy sections and memorable choruses is what makes listeners come back for multiple spins. Make no mistake, Obscura is still a technical death metal band, and bare their musical fangs on plenty of occasions throughout Diluvium. Yet, it is their measured approach and restraint that truly makes Diluvium a special record worth every inch it occupies on your shelf! Songwriting and Lyrics: 9/10.

While there’s no mistaking Obscura for anything other than they have become-a techy, and occasionally proggy, death metal band-Diluvium is a significantly more focused and tighter album than its predecessors. The band wastes no space, writing tight songs that max out at just past six minutes. So while it took almost a decade to arrive, I’m thrilled to see Obscura make an album as good as Diluvium.

As the final piece to a massive four-album concept, Diluvium – which refers to an oceanic flood – bursts out like air from the lungs of someone breaking the surface after panicky underwater submergence. Over the next 10 tracks, Diluvium hardly lets up, but never devolves into a rudimental display.
