RR7349 (its cassette release titled HD037) is the third studio album by Texas synthwave group Survive. Completed in January 2015, it wasn't until September 2016 that the album was released by the labels Relapse and Survive's own Holodeck. As with other releases by the band, RR7349 follows a slow-tempo style using elements of dark wave, electro, and intelligent dance music
On September 30th, Austin synthwave group S U R V I V E, featuring Stranger Things music composers Kyle Dixon and Michael Stein, release their new album RR7349 via Relapse. Indeed, the strength that resides in this album is the way it tells a story while remaining very consistent from one track to another, releasing an energy that quickly makes you forget the urge to dance on electronic music. They’re part of the best band to compose some tracks that can carry us with such intensity, and their fourth album R7349 is the proof. Always based on sonorities borrowed from the films of the 80s (synthwave’s world), this album is very good and complements widely the soundtrack of The Stranger Things (composed by half of the group)
And while those influences are abundant on their new album RR7349, the challenge here, as with any band who becomes suddenly popular, is to avoid that albatross and temper those expectations with enough individuality to stay true to their core sound and identity. It's not an easy balance, but the album gets there, and once it settles into its slick groove, is unrelenting in its deconstruction of their soundtrack work. Despite, or perhaps because of the restrictions of their instrumentation, S U R V I V E’s music has gone through a range of tones and atmospheres since their inception only.

Kyle Dixon and Michael Stein, two of the four members of the Austin synthwave band S U R V I V E, put together the incredible, evocative soundtrack for the Netflix show Stranger Things earlier this year. And later this week, they’ll follow up that big popular breakthrough with the release of their new album RR7349. The new LP is all-instrumental, and it has the same echoes of ’80s sci-fi scores as that Stranger Things soundtrack. The difference is that this time, this is music intended to be heard on its own, rather than accompanying some images. It’s a very cool record
