Triggered by a commission to respond to the local museum service’s archives, Dawson created an album largely from stories found in an old 17th Century scrapbook, including a lengthy paean to the sorry demise of community pillar Joe The Quilt-maker and the much-loved yet equally, viscerally dark Poor Old Horse.

Richard Dawson is a folk musician from Newcastle upon Tyne, England. His 2014 album Nothing Important was released by Weird World and was met with critical acclaim. His 2017 album Peasant received similar acclaim, and was chosen by The Quietus as their album of the year. Dawson grew up in Newcastle and became interested in singing as a child, attempting to emulate American singers such as Faith No More's Mike Patton.
Nothing Important is a studio album by Richard Dawson, released in 2014 by Weird World. The album consists of four songs, two of which ("Nothing Important" and "The Vile Stuff") exceed 16 minutes in length. The cover of the album features a photograph by Kuba Ryniewicz. Nothing Important has received some acclaim from music critics.
