Floodland is the second studio album by English rock band The Sisters of Mercy. About Floodland 1 contributor. Floodland is the second studio album by English rock band The Sisters of Mercy. The recording of the album began in January 1987, roughly two years after the band disbanded following the departures of band members Craig Adams and Wayne Hussey. Much of the lyrics of the album refer to this split, with The Cold War being the other major theme, thanks to Eldritch’s residence in Hamburg for the writing of this album. Four official singles were released from the album: This Corrosion, Dominion, 1959, and Lucretia My Reflection. Tap and hold to copy URL. Floodland Tracklist.
While the earlier Sisters releases were noisy, sometimes harsh affairs, Floodland is filled with lush production (thanks to Meat Loaf writer/producer Jim Steinman and the New York Choral Society) and lyric imagery that is both scary and glorious. The slower tracks, like "Flood" and "1959," are some of the best ethereal sounds goth has to offer, and the downright regal "This Corrosion" is one of the best songs of the genre. A definite milestone. It was released on 13 November 1987 by Merciful Release and Warner Music Group. It was produced by Larry Alexander, band frontman Andrew Eldritch, and Jim Steinman while being recorded at Power Station Studios in Manhattan, Strawberry Studios in Manchester, The Wool Hall in Bath, and AIR Studios in London.
Floodland was released in 1987 and marked only a slight difference in the band’s sound. To begin with, on this album The Sisters of Mercy consist of two members less. Wayne Hussey and Gary Marx left the band leaving all guitar duties on this album to Andrew Eldrich. To make a long story short, Floodland is basically an Eldrich solo album under The Sisters’ moniker whereas First and Last and Always featured contributions by all members but mostly Wayne Hussey and Gary Marx.
The The Sisters Of Mercy's second album was titled Floodland. Floodland and its accompanying singles This Corrosion, Dominion and Lucretia were preceded by a press statement. from Merciful Release, which can be found under A Short History. The album was accompanied by videos for This Corrosion, Sandstorm/Dominion, Lucretia and 1959. In 1989, the video compilation Shot was released featuring all of. these vids. They are also included in the revised video collection Shot Rev .
