4Ever, also known as Prince 4Ever, is a greatest hits album by American recording artist Prince, released on November 22, 2016, by NPG Records and Warner Bros. It is the first Prince release following the musician's death on April 21, 2016. The two-disc set features 40 songs from Prince's tenure with Warner Bros. Records and features recordings from all of his albums between 1978's For You and 1993's The Hits/The B-Sides.

Prince 4Ever includes Moonbeam Levels - a previously unreleased song originally recorded in 1982 during the "1999" sessions and later considered for the never released "Rave Unto The Joy Fantastic" album. A new compilation of Prince‘s greatest hits is being released soon. On November 22 (November 25 outside the . will release Prince 4Ever, which features 40 of the legendary artist’s hits, from his early single Soft and Wet on up to his material from the early ’90s, such as 7″ and Sexy MF. It also includes Moonbeam Levels, a previously unreleased song originally recorded during the 1999 era. In 2017, a deluxe reissue of Prince’s Purple Rain will also be released, with a remastered version of the original album, plus a bonus disc of unreleased material.

Hi there! So I have been reading all comments and looks like the CDs audio quality sound is crap basically and.... LPs good? Just good or good enough, not exceptional? If they are not worthy, what would you recommend if I want to discorverd Prince with a 1 or 2 great best audio LPs (please Purple rain hast obe in there). Which version, year to get the best audio quality? Thanks guys, cheers, Martin

You can't go far wrong with any of the Lps running from "Controversy" up to "Lovesexy". Things took a bit of a dip then quality wise, but I really enjoy the "Come" album which was the last recorded before the Warners wrangle. "The Gold Experience" is great aswell, and "The Rainbow Children" rewards with multiple listens.If I had to narrow it down to 2 ?...…..Difficult...…….. OK, I'd say Sign O' The Times (so eclectic) and The Gold Experience, with Purple Rain as a reserve (but steer clear of the 2017 brickwalled reissue!!) Whatever You decide on enjoy it !

Just A/B'd this with my original Lovesexy vinyl from '88.....sounds identical.... This was on a Rega P3 with a Rega Elys2 cart.....

Curious if anyone can comment on the dynamic range of this LP set. I know the CD version the dynamic range looks atrocious. Sounds promising that it was mastered by Kevin Gray ... but don’t want to splurge on the set and be disappointed by badly compressed audio. Interesting edits on these tracks but would be cool to have for these mostly shorter edits of many songs.

I have original US presses of Purple Rain and 1999. Just did a side by side of 'When Doves Cry', off of Purple Rain and the box set. They were very close in sound, the drums and bass seemed about the same and maybe a small edge to Purple Rain version for soundstage/air overall. This pressing is high quality (flat and quiet) and so are the details (graphics, sleeves, etc). I can see the gripes about the timing and content of this box set, but it is a fun listen.

I don’t have that much Prince stuff so I’ll just comment on the pressing. Mine shipped in a box that had a sticker on it that indicated it was pressed at optimal and it’s cut by Kevin Grey, tick and tick! The vinyl is flat, clean and centred with virtually no surface noise, sounds nice and punchy on my system and I’m very happy with it.

There's only one reason this piece of crap saw the light of day: Christmas time. The perfect gift for under the tree for those who 'kinda like Prince', never mind the audio quality of the material recycled here, never mind the countless, good for nothing edits and on top of all this misery they included -strap yourself in- ONE unreleased song 'from the vault'. Yeah! ONE song from the vault! Four unreleased minutes of music... Of course we all knew a crap compilation like this would come out sooner or later. A waste of resources that confirms every prejudice against record companies that you can have.

This set isn't even remastered. Little Red Corvette still has distortion on the vocals to prove it and all the songs have various volume levels. Moonbeam Levels is obviously remastered but the rest of the songs are not. All in all a rushed cash grab jumping on Prince's death.

The year is 2016, and this posthumous collection includes a *clean* version of Controversy that goes "Am I black or white, am I straight or beep?".

All 7" i yet compared and also on the PRO-A- "Gay" is a kind of "hiccup" - only on the the Japanese 7" it's uncensored

I understand your point but, to be clear, this version DOES NOT have a "beep" sound, but the word 'gay' IS clipped short and is not heard in full. This is the single edit version - the exact same version that was used on The Hits/The B-Sides collection and the same version originally released on the 7" single back in 1981. This collection uses many single edits and, as far as I can tell, there have been no changes made to any versions here, nor was this collection put together with any mind toward "censored" or "uncensored" versions - they are simply the single edits, as originally released.
