Queen Isabella summary: Queen Isabella was born to John II on April 22nd, 1451. When she was three, her father died, making her half-brother, Henry IV, King. Henry later named Isabella his successor, but withdrew his support when she married Ferdinand II of Aragon in 1469. Henry’s daughter, Juana took the throne after Henry’s death in 1474, but after a war of succession that ended in 1479, Isabella became the Queen of Castile. Her husband, Ferdinand, had already become King of Aragon, and together they ruled both, unifying Spain. The Spanish Inquisition And Christopher Columbus

Isabella: The Warrior Queen follows Kirstin Downey’s 2009 The Woman Behind the New Deal: The Life and Legacy of Frances Perkins - Social Security, Unemployment Insurance, and the Minimum Wage, and if so immensely provocative a figure as Isabella seems an unlikely successor to Franklin Roosevelt’s secretary of labor, who quietly worked out of the public eye, the two women successfully maneuvered. By the end of her life, in 1504 - she was 53 - she could admit that she had caused great calamities and depopulated towns, provinces and kingdoms - but not with regret.

This article looks at the life of Queen Isabella. History has not been kind to Queen Isabella (1295-1358), the wife of Edward II of England. Referred to by the 18th century poet, Thomas Grey as ‘She-Wolf of France with unrelenting fangs, That tear’st the bowels of thy mangled mate’, she is associated in the minds of many with adultery and murder.

Photos from 1945 show Queen Elizabeth when she worked as a truck mechanic in the Women's Auxiliary Territorial Service. Her parents just happened to be King George VI and the Queen, and her sister was Princess Margaret. That truck mechanic was Princess – later Queen – Elizabeth. In 1942, at age 16, Elizabeth registered with the Labour Exchange –the British employment agency at the time – and was extremely keen to join a division of the women’s armed forces. Her father was reluctant to let her do so, but eventually relented. Once in the Auxiliary Territorial Service, Elizabeth learned how to change a wheel, deconstruct and rebuild engines, and drive ambulances and other vehicles.
