Going to California" is a ballad written and performed by the English rock band Led Zeppelin. It was released from the band's untitled fourth album in 1971. In 2012, Rolling Stone ranked "Going to California" number 11 on their list of the 40 greatest Led Zeppelin songs of all time. The song's folk-style sound, with Robert Plant on lead vocals, acoustic guitar by Jimmy Page and mandolin by John Paul Jones, contrasts with the heavy electric-amplified rock on five of the album's other tracks.

These songs are typical Zeppelin. That is riff-based songs with the bass and guitar playing in unison at maximum volume. Sure it's formula rock and it is not particularly progressive, but then the group does not have any pretensions to being "progressive" or "experimental" like the heavy German groups "Amon Duhl 2" and "The Can". Their aim is simply to generate excitement and this they do extremely well. You sensed they were going to play this one through on alcohol before getting back to Sanity. When Led Zeppelin came to Auckland they had already been denied entry to Singapore because of local laws banning males from wearing long hair. The good thing about coming up for concerts was that I got to talk to the bands. The promoters knew me, and that I'd spent all this money coming a long way, so they made sure I got interviews.

The album was often called "ZoSo," which was Jimmy Page's sign, or "Led Zeppelin . The symbols were put in due to the lack of a title for the album. Robert Plant didn't start playing Led Zeppelin songs on his solo tours until 1990, and he did so sparingly. The Zep song he performed most often was "Going To California. More songs from Led Zeppelin.

Led Zeppelin have announced their return after four decades with a new studio album in September and a world tour featuring drummer Ringo Starr in the fall. Led Zeppelin V’, out September 27, 2019. The new album, simply titled Led Zeppelin V, features the same four symbols that graced the band’s landmark fourth album Led Zeppelin IV (also referred to as ZoSo). The record is slated for release September 25, 2019 – exactly thirty-nine years after drummer John Bonham’s tragic passing. Led Zeppelin V will be the band’s ninth studio album (following 1979’s In Through the Out Door) and the first full collection of new material since 1982’s Coda, a post-breakup compilation of unused tracks and b-sides. When Robert Plant weighed in last year, he hailed them as Led Zeppelin I, going on to jokingly say he hated them while also praising their sound.

Led Zeppelin's second album was recorded during the precious little downtime they had on their endless 1969 world tour. It took them months to record in studios all across America and Europe, yet somehow it sounds cohesive. The track listing almost reads like a greatest hits collection: "Whole Lotta Love," "Thank You," "Heartbreaker," "What Is And What Should Never Be" and "Bring It On Home. IV closes out with the gentle "Going to California" and the marauding "When the Levee Breaks. In between, they unleash "Misty Mountain Hop," "The Battle of Evermore" and "Four Sticks. There's also a little song called "Stairway To Heaven," which still sounds great after 500 billion spins on classic rock radio.
