Michael David Watt (born December 20, 1957) is an American bassist, vocalist and songwriter. He is best known for co-founding and playing bass guitar for the rock bands Minutemen, Dos, and Firehose. He is also the frontman for the supergroup Big Walnuts Yonder, a member of the art rock group Banyan and involved with several other musical projects. From 2003 until 2013, he was the bass guitarist for The Stooges.
The song was covered by Mike Watt which opens his live recording album Ring Spiel Tour '95 (Live) released in 2016. In 1994, after the dissolutions of his band fIREHOSE and his marriage to Black Flag bassist Kira Roessler, Mike Watt was at a crossroads. The former Minutemen bassist assembled an impressive array of musicians including Henry Rollins, Flea, Thurston Moore, J Mascis, Adam Horovitz, Mike Diamond, Frank Black, Dave Pirner, Evan Dando, and Nels Cline to help him record Ball-Hog or Tugboat?, his first solo album, and he launched his solo career in earnest the next year with the ring spiel tour.
