My Old School" is a single drawn from Steely Dan's 1973 album Countdown to Ecstasy. It reached number 63 on the Billboard charts. The song's lyrics tell the story of a drug bust at Bard College (named "Annandale" in the lyrics after its location) while both Donald Fagen and Walter Becker were students there, and how a female acquaintance had inadvertently betrayed them to "Daddy Gee" (G. Gordon Liddy, then the local prosecutor)

The old school to which Fagen and Becker refer is Bard College in Annandale-on-Hudson, NY. In 1969, the two were nabbed in a pot raid by local police along with Fagen’s then-girlfriend Dorothy White. Fagen remembered the incident to Entertainment Weekly in 2006. Whatever the origin, My Old School, from Steely Dan’s 1973 sophomore album Countdown To Ecstasy, is the perfect showcase for the unique alchemy the band created throughout the decade. Fagen’s wry observations only partially mask the disappointment in his voice, for both the girl and the school, but the ebullience of the music keeps things light. California, Fagen sings, tumbles into the sea/That’ll be the day I go back to Annandale. For the record, he and Becker did eventually go back, so some grudges aren’t permanent.
