The sound is moody and lush, without being overwhelmingly sweet - the achingly beautiful melodic nuances of a piece like "You Are Love" still come through amid the harps and strings, even if it's better to hear it sung

Album of Jerome Kern. The album is divided into two halves, music for Broadway and music for the movies. There are excellent notes by Stephen Sondheim and Weston himself, the latter including a reminiscence of Kern. The arrangements are simply beautiful. As Weston says, the treatment of the tunes is fairly conventional. Kern's music, says Weston, of all the great songwriters' is the one whose tunes do best without the words. The string playing is beautiful, and the brass have a vibrato rich sound that's a reminder that Weston used to arrange for Tommy Dorsey
