Brooks leads a fantastic band featuring alto saxophonist Jackie McLean, trumpeter Blue Mitchell, pianist Kenny Drew, bassist Paul Chambers and drummer Art Taylor through three originals and two standards. Each musician has opportunity to shine, but Brooks remains the center of attention. His style is remarkably fluid, capable of graceful, elegant turns on the ballads and clean, speedy improvisations on the up-tempo bop. Each of the five songs have breathtaking moments, confirming Brooks talents as a saxophonist, composer and leader.

True Blue is a jazz album by tenor saxophonist Tina Brooks recorded on June 25, 1960, and released on the Blue Note label. In the hard-bop idiom, it was Brooks only date as leader to be released during his lifetime, and features performances by Brooks, Freddie Hubbard, Duke Jordan, Sam Jones and Art Taylor. All compositions by Tina Brooks except those indicated. Good Old Soul" - 8:07. Up Tight's Creek" - 5:17.

Tenor Saxophone – Tina Brooks. Trumpet – Blue Mitchell. XRCD24 Produced by Joe Harley; Mastered by Alan Yoshida; Executive Producer: Robert Bantz. Back To The Tracks" originally released in 1985 on Blue Note Records as Mosaic 106. Released in a thick paper stock book format and includes 16 pages of liner notes, additional photographs and information on the XRCD process. Recorded September 1, 1960.

Although probably not the intention, Back To The Tracks appropriately labels saxophonist Tina Brooks' mode of operation during the 1960 Blue Note sessions that would produce this album. Going unreleased until Mosaic put it out in 1985 (the result of one of those head-shakingly dismissive or sad, number-crunching decisions seemingly so common in Blue Note's history), the record spins on the proven rails of hard bop construction. Three of the five tunes follow a pattern of theme/sax solo/trumpet solo/piano solo/theme. Tracks: Disc 1: Back To The Tracks; Street Singer. Disc 2: The Blues and I; For Heavens Sake; The Ruby And The Pearl. Personnel: Blue Mitchell, trumpet; Jackie McLean, alto saxophone; Tina Brooks, tenor saxophone; Kenny Drew, piano; Paul Chambers, bass; Art Taylor, drums. As difficult as it is to believe after listening, Back To The Tracks was one of these unreleased sets. In truth, there was no logical reason why this very rare 1960 session was bypassed for it features Brooks coming up with one brilliant solo after another throughout a consistently superb set. More than holding his own with a stellar cast including trumpeter Blue Mitchell, altoist Jackie McLean and a superb rhythm section on a mixture of originals and standards, Tina constantly takes solo honors
