An album is a collection of audio recordings issued as a single item on compact disc (CD), vinyl, audio tape or another medium. Albums of recorded music were developed in the early 20th century, first as books of individual 78rpm records, then from 1948 as vinyl LP records played at 33 1⁄3 rpm. Vinyl LPs are still issued, though album sales in the 21st-century have mostly focused on CD and MP3 formats. The audio cassette was a format used alongside vinyl from the 1970s into the first decade of the 2000s.
According to Jimmy Page, a new live album in 2018 is the start of a long archival release project from Led Zeppelin. In a recent interview, the guitarist said a new archival live project is due this year, with more to come later. I can't give the game away, but there's a recording that’s another multi-track that we'll release, he told Planet Rock (via Music Week). It's so different to all the other things that are out there.
Now, the metal stalwarts - who were recently nominated for a Grammy for "Best Rock Song" for "The Stage" - have released a digital-only release live album of the performance, aptly titled Live at the Grammy Museum. A portion of the proceeds from the record will benefit the Grammy Museum's education initiatives, which seek to inspire youth to the enduring qualities and cultural significance of music.
