Nativity in Black are two Black Sabbath tribute albums that came out in the 1990s and 2000s. The albums were recorded with various heavy metal bands paying tribute to Black Sabbath for their influence on the heavy metal genre of rock music. All of the tracks in Nativity in Black are covers of classic Black Sabbath material from the Ozzy Osbourne era, mostly by heavy metal bands. The name comes from the commonly assumed, but incorrect, meaning of the song title ".

Black Nativity is a retelling of the classic Nativity story with an entirely black cast. Traditional Christmas carols are sung in gospel style, with a few songs created specifically for the show. Originally written by Langston Hughes, the show was first performed Off-Broadway on December 11, 1961, and was one of the first plays written by an African American to be staged there.

Released in 2000, six years after the first volume, Nativity in Black II: A Tribute to Black Sabbath reflects the shifting tastes in heavy metal over that time period. The vets may be a little more conservative and faithful in their approaches, but they also know what makes Sabbath tick, and so they tend to deliver the goods more reliably.

The cover of Solitude appears only on some versions of the album, one of which is NOT the US domestic version. The CD single for Biohazard’s After Forever contains two other tracks which do not appear on another version of the album. They’re both by the band Cathedral, and they are Wheels of Confusion, and St Vitus Dance. This includes covers by respectable bands (like the ones in this album) to bands looking to make a name for themselves, and the plain weird (ie Black Sabbath songs done in bluegrass, lounge act, and monk chant).
