Michael Chapman (born 24 January 1941, Hunslet, Leeds, Yorkshire, England) is an English singer-songwriter and guitarist. Chapman originally began playing guitar with jazz bands, mainly in his home town of Leeds in The West Riding of Yorkshire. He became well known in the folk clubs of the late 1960s, as well as on the 'progressive' music scene, and has recorded over 40 albums to date.

One of the most understated but spectrally beautiful of all Michael Chapman's albums, Window evidences just why producer Gus Dudgeon was in such demand during the early '70s, as he allows the idiosyncratic Chapman to weave each and every one of his musical moods through the sequence, without the record ever appearing to lose its grip.

Window. By: Michael Chapman (1970, Rock). 1. Lady On The Rocks, Song For September.
Window sits just after the previously released Fully Qualified Survivor and Rainmaker, right before Wrecked Again. In 1970, signed to the hip Harvest label (home to Kevin Ayers and Syd Barrett, among others), Chapman was still an artist waiting for that first big success, perpetually skint and permanently touring to make ends meet. With that in mind, he aimed to make Window in as little time as possible because being in the studio meant.
Michael Chapman - Window. Doesn’t know whether he’s coming or going. It sounds like a piece of crap. That was Michael Chapman’s verdict on his third album, supposedly released by Harvest in 1970 without his say-so after the guide tracks were deemed good enough. Both sides had a point. This isn’t Chapman at his best – the songs are occasionally humdrum and there are too many lady references for comfort; at its worst (She Came In Like The . 5 and Made A Hole In The Wall), Window is supremely self-indulgent
