It’s A Long Way Down by the Fallen Angels, from 1968, was a product of this revolutionary vortex. It’s a minor masterpiece, with a great cover. This album has been forgotten about, lost in the sands of time, a micro-organism lost in a virtual sea that produced an overwhelming body of music. The Angels had released an uneven but generally exciting debut album in 1967 and some singles beforehand. There was some great highlights on the debut, but for their last album they produced the so-called Sgt. Pepper of Washington .
In 1997, Bryant reformed the Fallen Angels and recorded the album Rain of Fire, which contained re-recorded versions of their older material and newly penned compositions References. a b "B - The Fallen Angels". The Fallen Angels, formed in 1965, were a dynamo of musical creativity and stage theatrics. Beatles, Dylan, jazz, classical, et. into a cohesive sound that was distinctly their own. After releasing some singles and a full self-titled album in 1967 the band began working on what some people now describe as the "Sgt. ".
Hard to pinpoint really, but some parts are like a high-brow Common People, others like a folkrock Mandrake Memorial. pretty amazing album. i used to go see the fallen angels play around the dc area, and they never sounded like this. they were much darker live, more like say the doors. Breakup Heartache Heartbreak Late Night Lifecycle Loneliness Long Walk Loss/Grief Rainy Day Reflection Regret Relationships Reminiscing Small Gathering Solitude Sorrow Wisdom. It's filled with songs of love, not heartbreak, and Dylan's band plays the numbers as sweet shuffles that function as a counterpart to the gloomy saloon tunes that filled Shadows in the Night. Another distinction of Fallen Angels is that, unlike its cousin, some of the featured songs are quite common: "Young at Heart," "All the Way," "It Had to Be You," and "Come Rain or Come Shine" often pop up on Great American Songbook tributes, whereas the compositions on Shadows often felt carefully curated.
When it came out in 1967, psychedelic music was in full swing and Dylan’s album of folk rambles and simple parables vied for space on record store racks with Jimi Hendrix ’s Axis: Bold As Love and Cream’s Wheels Of Fire. By the time the rest of the world had caught up with him musically, Dylan had already moved a long way on down the road. Perhaps it’s because Dylan came so strongly onto the scene as a very young man that he was typecast so early and so easily. It’s something Dylan has clearly struggled with, but even when he has purposely recorded music designed to confuse his audience-as he claimed to do with Self-Portrait, his first album of cover songs from 1970-the passage of time has often been all that was needed to change people’s perspectives. Fallen Angels is his 37th studio album, so in many ways this is just one more.
