Born This Way is Lady Gaga's second studio album. It was released on May 23, 2011. The writing of the album took place in 2010 during The Monster Ball Tour. Preceding its release, the album's lead single and title track, "Born This Way", debuted on February 11, 2011. In Gaga's own words, the album is "much more vocally up to par with what I’ve always been capable of. It’s more electronic, but I have married a very theatrical vocal to it. It’s like a giant musical-opus theater piece.
Born This Way: The Collection is the third compilation album by American singer Lady Gaga, released on November 18, 2011, by Interscope Records. The three-disc set includes her second studio album Born This Way, the remix album Born This Way: The Remix, and the DVD Lady Gaga Presents the Monster Ball Tour: At Madison Square Garden. Photographer Nick Knight shot the cover of the release, which showed Gaga wearing a dress made of slime by designer Bart Hess.
Born This Way is about self-liberation, and loving every part of yourself, no matter your race, gender, or sexuality; the song was released as the lead single from the album of the same name in February 2011. With her lyrics, GaGa addresses the persistent prejudice against many types of love, .
Lady Gaga recorded a country version while on tour with new vocals and added guitar and harmonica. After she released "Born This Way – Country Road Version" through her Twitter page, it became such a viral hit that Gaga decided to officially issue the track for sale with a portion of the proceeds to benefit the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network charity. Gaga was close friends with the late British fashion designer Alexander McQueen, who committed suicide by hanging. I knew it had to be the first single. It still gets me every time. The album cover features Gaga fused into a motorcycle.
Award-winning recording artist and pop phenomenon Lady Gaga collaborated with Nick Knight to create Born This Way, the video for the first single from her eagerly-awaited second studio album. Shot in early 2011 in New York City, this video gave the first taste of a new visual identity for the already-iconic performer. The irrepressible Lady Gaga is captured on set during Nick Knight's shoot for the September 2010 issue of Vanity Fair. Lady Gaga collaborated with Nick Knight and Ruth Hogben to create a number of films for her epic Monster Ball tour in 2009.
She's already recorded a country version of "Born This Way", for instance. And certainly, while large parts of this album follow the tried and trusted pumping mega-crunch strutting techno-disco manner we're used to, there are some clear incursions into more mainstream "rock" areas: Clarence Clemons, for instance, is drafted in to bring that big E Street Band bombast to the climactic "The Edge of Glory", while both "Bad Kids" and "Electric Chapel". The irony being, of course, that she is probably the most assiduous, serial self-alterer in pop history – the last thing that Lady Gaga wants, one suspects, is to remain exactly the way she was born. The Limited Collector's Edition of Lady Gaga's third studio release "Born This Way" released through the Universal online store, worldwide.Issued in a customized and numbered faux black leather box whose interior is lined with red velvet.
Next to the nine picture discs, which include one album track per side, the box comes with a fold-out fan mosaic poster that was only available for pre-orders at the online Lady Gaga stores for a short time only. Lady Gaga fans from all around the world were asked to send in their photo to be included on the poster.
Also included is a liner notes sheet which holds the promotional skull graphic on its black front side.
Side R (B-Side to disc n°9) includes no track but has the same graphic engraved on shiny black background.
Each disc is housed in a clear red PVC sleeve.
Part of the package for initial orders but sent out separately was also a personalized "Little Monster I.D. Card" which provides access to exclusive benefits.
