Each one has a hook and each one has a purpose. It may lack some of the bite of his best work with his previous project Ovens and his early solo releases, but it's nice to follow his career as he grows and experiments (gently) with new sounds and a new-ish approach, while still delivering songs that are super-hooky and flat-out nice to listen to.

San Francisco singer/songwriter Tony Molina is impossible to pigeonhole. As a member of the hardcore band Caged Animal, he produces pummeling blasts of slam-dance punk. At the other end of the musical spectrum sits his 2013 solo LP Dissed and Dismissed, which is unabashedly filled with Weezer-inspired power pop. These are just two examples from a decade-plus career that has seen Molina move seamlessly from punk to pop and back again. Yet even for a musician with no one fixed style, his new EP, Confront the Truth, is something of a departure

You could listen to Tony Molina’s 2013 solo debut, Dissed and Dismissed, in less time than it takes to boil a pot of pasta. Follow it up with the same year’s Six Tracks EP and 2016’s Confront the Truth, and you’d still be hard-pressed to have your meal plated before all three records were done. To say Molina is a fan of brevity would be a gross understatement-this is a guy who covered a Guided by Voices song that was originally 59 seconds long and made it even shorter. His expediency isn’t merely reflected in his 10-minute albums, however. With Dissed and Dismissed, Molina conjured images of Weezer locked in the garage with the car running, desperate to blast their way through the Blue Album before they choked on the fumes. Later, on Confront the Truth, he ricocheted in the opposite direction, condensing the aesthetic breadth of the White Album to seven-inch proportions.
