Track List And Lyrics. They've (A&M) been saying that now is the time to do a greatest hits. The version of 'We'll Be Together' with Brian Loren seemed right at the time, so we shelved the Eric Clapton version.

Early in his solo career, Sting defined himself as a man of taste, choosing to work with jazz musicians instead of rockers. Inevitably, this meant he walked the thin line between sophisticated pop and adult contemporary, but he did it with grace from 1985's Dream of the Blue Turtles to 1993's Ten Summoner's Tales. Unfortunately, Fields of Gold: The Best of Sting doesn't illustrate what a deft trick he pulled off with that quartet of albums.

A good overview of Sting's radio hits and popular album tracks with only one major omission ("Mad About You"), Fields of Gold also offers three d songs. This Cowboy Song" and "When We Dance" appear on no other album, while "We'll Be Together" is an alternate version  . FIELDS OF GOLD reminds Sting fans that it was indeed a remarkable decade. Sting lifted our hearts and filled our minds inimitably or-as the artist himself might have it-in my fashion.

Fields of Gold is the second single released from Sting’s 1993 album Ten Summoner’s Tales. The single reached No. 16 on the UK Singles Chart, No. 23 on the Billboard Hot 100, and No. 2 on the Billboard Adult Contemporary Chart. The song has probably got the most radio broadcast compared to Sting’s other songs. It is also known as his signature song, as most people recognize Sting by this song. According to Sting, he wrote the song when he moved into a house and saw barley fields next door

Naturally, Fields of Gold concentrates on his hit singles, just like any other greatest-hits collection, but Sting's material sounds surprisingly tame in this context. Sure, there is a number of great songs here - enough to state his case as a fine songwriter or to satisfy his casual fans.
