Freeman is the eponymous debut studio album by American rock band Freeman. Aaron Freeman left Ween in May 2012. He played shows both solo and accompanied by Joe Young from 2012-2014. After moving to Woodstock, New York and teaching at Paul Green's School of Rock, Freeman began working on material for a new album. He assembled musicians from the Brooklyn, New York area as well as North Carolina to record the album for Partisan Records

Aaron Freeman (born March 17, 1970) better known by his stage name Gene Ween, is an American musician and a founding member of the experimental alternative rock group Ween. Freeman, along with childhood friend Dean Ween (Mickey Melchiondo), started the group in the mid-1980s. Freeman announced his departure from Ween in 2012, shortly after releasing Marvelous Clouds, his first solo album. After leaving Ween, he stopped using the name Gene Ween and performed under his birth name Aaron Freeman.

Oh, I wish Ween would make an album. ape itch I love this so much as I love all things that Gene Ween/Aaron Freeman does.

Aaron Freeman left Ween in May 2012.

Aaron Freeman is no longer who he once was. On his upcoming as-yet-untitled solo album, due this summer, the singer-guitarist has opted not to go by the moniker of Gene Ween, under which he performed as part of cult rock act Ween for nearly 30 years before leaving the band in 2012

As Gene Ween, Aaron Freeman was frontman of the legendary alt-rock pranksters Ween, a duo who specialized in singing any style they ever encountered. Early on, they'd alternate between punk rock skronk and nervy Prince tributes; they soon threaded in pop and psychedelia and famously headed to Nashville to record a full album with a bunch of Music City veterans. Freeman continued this omnivorous musicality in his solo career, which he launched in earnest in 2012 with a collection of Rod McKuen covers called Marvelous Clouds. The following year brought Freeman, his first collection of original songs since Ween's 2007 album La Cucaracha. It appeared in July 2014. Freeman began using the Gene Ween moniker again in 2015, performing a series of Billy Joel concerts called "Gene Ween Does Billy Joel.

So strong did this bond seem that when Freeman decided to walk away from the band in 2012, just as the duo approached its 25th anniversary, it came as a heavy blow. The man formerly known as Gene Ween has released his first album under his own name, Aaron Freeman. The 44-year-old singer’s self-titled solo album, FREEMAN, holds a lot of weight. Just the name of the record could easily stand for Freeman’s sense of self. Or it could represent his relatively new status as a free man-emancipated of the dope and the booze that marked so much of Ween and its eventual demise.
