Rain Machine isn’t like TV on the Radio albums – there are similar elements yet it doesn’t feel like a TV on the Radio album. There is something unreined in these songs, it’s clear that Malone is allowing his muse, his music to take him where it will. Tracks unspool at 6-8 minutes and at times it becomes tedious, but they are never uninteresting and always beautiful and mesmerizing. Malone’s songs are unpredictable and he is a captivating songwriter but it’s not for everyone.

Rain Machine is the sideproject of Kyp Malone, guitarist and vocalist of TV on the Radio and Iran. On a press release Malone explained: "I've been writing and recording songs alone since I moved to NYC in 2000, at first alone because I didn't know anyone, then through the years by choice because of a particular freedom that going it alone afforded.

Kyp Malone is using Rain Machine as a creative outlet to experiment a little further than before, and it shows, all the way through to the album cover. Garnered with a drawing that looks like an fanciful fourth-grader was assigned an art project on Africa and got his hands on some crayons, Rain Machine looks like it sounds, complete with rainbows and waterfalls. To be blunt, Rain Machine is not a disappointment
