Delta formed in 1993 from the ashes of cult Sarah Records indie band The Sea Urchins, the core lineup consisting of brothers James and Patrick Roberts on guitar and vocals.

Starry Eyed and Laughing were a British Rock band of the 1970s. Formed in 1973, they released two albums on CBS, recorded three Peel Sessions and undertook a US tour, before briefly evolving into Starry Eyed, and finally disbanding in 1976. Tony Poole and Ross McGeeney were friends from the age of six, and formed a band whilst they were still at school in Bedford. Delta Dawn is the debut studio album by American country music singer Tanya Tucker. It was released on September 11, 1972, by Columbia Records. The album was produced by Billy Sherrill and includes two top ten singles, "Delta Dawn" and "Love's the Answer".

More than anything else, Delta evokes Coldplay’s 2005 album X&Y-and not just in its predilection for gaseous choruses and moody melodies. Coldplay’s worst album is notorious for its imposing length, and the 61-minute Delta is similarly a slog, as Mumford & Sons’ new sound takes on a dull, beige quality when consumed for too long. But at least Landry’s poetizing lends some personality to the album. While Mumford & Sons have never sounded as purely palatable as they do on Delta, they do so at risk of achieving total anonymity-the aural equivalent of unflavored Alka-Seltzer dissolving in a glass of milk. Somewhat bewilderingly, the album’s strongest moment comes when Mumford & Sons evoke their folksy roots: the moonlit ballad Wild Heart, buried in Delta’s back half, which showcases Mumford’s lovely vocal talents over brushed drums, tinkling piano, and a quietly strummed acoustic guitar.

Delta was formed in 1993 by James Roberts (b. 4 March 1970, West Bromwich, West Midlands, England; guitar/vocals), Patrick Roberts (b. 1972, West Midlands, England; drums/vocals) and Robert Cooksey (b. 14 November 1969, Solihull, West Midlands, England; guitar), who had previously played together in cult indie band the Sea Urchins. Laughing Mostly, a compilation of EP tracks and demos recorded between 1994 and 1997, finally saw the light of day in 1999. Cooksey was subsequently replaced by keyboard player Louis J. Clark, the son of noted arranger Louis Clark who collaborated with Jeff Lynne on most of ELO’s albums. The band’s debut album proper, Slippin’ Out, was recorded at UB40’s studios and utilised horns and a string section to augment the Roberts brothers’ classic pop songs.
