Their singing and instrumental style of performance exhibit a characteristically strong tendency for ornamentation and variations. The richly shaped instrumental melody is not accompanied by harmony, rather by a sound from the gardon – a folk cello – in richly varied rhythms. The first written reference to this stringed instrument which used as a rhythm instrument by hitting the strings with a wooden stick, is from the time of the principality of Transylvania (that is the 16th and 17th centuries).
Recorded in 1984, Hungarian Folk Music features songs from the ethnically Hungarian region of Transylvania in northern Romania. Song selections highlight examples of toe-tapping dance tunes, wedding songs, and a unique vocal recording sung in both Hungarian and Romanian. The liner notes, written by László Kürti, contain photographs as well as detailed explanations of his trip to Hungary and notes on the selections.
Includes authentic Greek folk songs and dances that feature instruments such as the lyre of Pontus and the lyre of Crete. Liner notes include an introduction written by James A. Notopoulous; historical background written by G. A. Megas; detailed notes on Greek music, dance, and instruments written by Spyros Peristeres; and track descriptions with pictures of instruments and musicians.

Inspiration from Transylvanian Folk music.
The Anthology of American Folk Music is a six-album compilation released in 1952 by Folkways Records (catalogue FP 251, FP 252, and FP 253), comprising eighty-four American folk, blues and country music recordings that were originally issued from 1927 to 1932. Experimental film maker Harry Smith compiled the music from his personal collection of 78 rpm records. The album is famous due to its role as a touchstone for the American folk music revival in the 1950s and 1960s
The wonderful music is the rich result of Romanian, Hungarian and Gypsy interpenetration.

Gyimesi népzene - Bálványospataka - Hidegség - Új PátriaA gyimesi csángók zenéje és tánckultúrája felekezetre való tekintet nélkül egységes. Dallamviláguk zömét a csíki székelység zenekultúrájának igen régies, egyéni ízu változatának tekinthetjük. "Ez csángó nóta" - mondják sokszor a felcsíkiak olyan régi dallamokra, melyek náluk már nem számítanak divatosnak, a hagyományhubb gyimesiek viszont még szeretik. Ezek a régi magyar énekes és hangszeres dallamok teszik ki dallamaik túlnyomó többségét, ezek kísérik régi párostáncaikat és szólisztikus férfitáncaikat is - a lassú és sebes magyarost, a csárdást, a kettost és sirülejét, a féloláhost és a verbunkot. Keserveseikből Kallós Zoltán és Martin György könyve, a "Tegnap a Gyimesben jártam..." vonultat fel páratlan értéku válogatást.
