unreleased Sorry For Laughing album was eventually issued on a 1990 CD reissue of The Only Fun in Town. The band split prior to the release of the 1982 single, "The Farewell Single" through Les Disques du Crépuscule, which included the Peel session track, "The Missionary", Haig deciding to call an end to the band while they were at a creative peak  . Josef K would prove to be a major influence on several later 1980s bands, including The June Brides and The Wedding Present (who also never do encores)

'Sorry For Laughing' should have been issued as Postcard 81-1, but was shelved after the band and label boss Alan Horne decided the 12-song set sounded too polished. Perhaps two dozen white-label copies in unmade sleeves exist, and have sold for as much as £1,000 amongst collectors. Josef K issued their second stab at a debut album, The Only Fun In Town, in July 1981 - only to split after completing a promotional tour.

Although they released just one album while together and achieved only moderate success, they have since proved influential on many bands that followed. Malcolm Ross (musician). His musical career started when he played guitar in the Scottish band Josef K. They released a string of singles and an album, The Only Fun in Town, on Postcard Records in the early 1980s. After the demise of Josef K, Ross joined Edwyn Collins in the group Orange Juice, playing and writing songs for both the Rip it Up and Texas Fever albums.
