Between 1999 and 2011 Ross recorded ambient music under the name Second Thought, also synth music as Obliquity and lo-fi songs as The Curse of Kevin Carter. At the start of 2012, Ross left these monikers behind and continued recording under his own name. He now makes music which combines live instrumentation, vocals, field recordings and occasional electronics, with a shift of focus towards a more nostalgic, human feel.

Ross Baker has been composing electronic music under the name Second Thought since early 2000. His recent musical endeavors under his birth name have taken a more acoustic path. Ross Baker’s new album, Photographic Reflection, is as an electro-acoustic journey through fields and time. The style is in many ways similar to Ross’s previous efforts, The Blackbird’s Revenge and Revolution 2. The album starts with just field recordings of birds and field work. Holly Blue pairs the sound of rain, birds, and an acoustic guitar. Sleepers Made of Stone showcases guitar and reverberated vocals.

Reflection is the twenty-sixth studio album by English musician Brian Eno, released on 1 January 2017 on Warp Records. It is a single piece of ambient music produced by Eno that runs for 54 minutes in length on CD and vinyl. It was nominated for the 2017 Grammy Award for Best New Age Album.

Reflection opens with a brief melodic figure and slowly evolves from there over the course of one 54-minute piece. It’s not unlike the opening notes of Music for Airport’s 1/1, with Robert Wyatt’s piano replaced by what might be a xylophone resonating from underwater. Each note acts like a pebble dropped into a pond, sending out ever widening ripples that slowly decay, but not before certain tones linger and swell until they more closely resemble drones. Scale becomes the operative word for Reflection.
