Jones Country is an album by American country music artist George Jones released in 1983 on the Epic Records label. The album's name was taken from an outdoor music park operated and owned by Jones in Texas near his birthplace between the years of 1983 through 1988 prior to his and his wife's return to the Nashville, Tennessee area in 1989
Country singer and songwriter George Jones was born into poverty, but became a successful musician later in life. His first hit was the 1955 song "Why Baby Wh. Synopsis. George Jones was born in Saratoga, Texas, in 1931. He began his career by performing on the street to help earn money for his large and impoverished family, and after a brief stint in the military began to pursue his musical ambitions in earnest. At the end of the decade, Jones broke back into the country album charts Top 10 with The Cold Hard Truth. But around that same time it appeared that he had also suffered a relapse that resulted in him getting into a serious car accident while intoxicated. In recognition of his more than half-century-long career, in 2002 Jones received the National Medal of the Arts.
The Battle was Jones's second album following his divorce from Tammy Wynette and continued his mid-seventies commercial slide. Although it did slightly better than his previous album Memories of Us on the Billboard country album charts, reaching number 36, it was a far cry from what the singer had been accustomed to. Despite the absence of a hit single, Jones's singing is characteristically impeccable, especially on the title track, which peaked at number 14 on the singles chart.
The songs that spanned his fifty-year career have stood the test of time and remain touchstones of the country genre. Over the years, the Texas-born singer collaborated with Willie Nelson ("I Gotta Get Drunk"), Merle Haggard (". Waterback") and Patty Loveless ("You Don't Seem to Miss Me"). His voice adds magic to any song. 10. "The One I Loved Back Then (The Corvette Song)". This irresistible ode to classic cars and young love was recorded for Jones' 1985 album Who's Gonna Fill Their Shoes. The song recounts the Possum's run-in with an older man at a convenience store who seems to be taken with his Corvette. After more discussion, he discovers the old man is actually talking about the brunette woman in the passenger seat.
