Surfers’ Choice is the debut album of Dick Dale and his Del-Tones, pioneers in the surf genre. It was released in 1962. The recording established the conventions of surf music and brought the concept to middle America. The album was mostly recorded live at the Rendezvous Ballroom, with overdubs added in the studio. The record was out of print for a long time but was reissued on CD by Sundazed Records in October 2006. All tracks composed by Dick Dale; except where indicated.

Cars were second only to surfing as a teenage obsession in California in the early '60s, and after establishing himself as the King of Surf Guitar, Dick Dale set out to conquer new worlds by turning his attention to hot rods on his 1963 album Checkered Flag.

Backed by studio pros like Hal Blaine, Earl Palmer, Plas Johnson and Steve Douglas, Dick laid down tough, reverb-soaked instrumentals like Night Rider and The Wedge, highlighting his unique technique and deeply varied sonic textures. The album also features vocal numbers, like lead track The Scavenger, penned by some of the top pop tunesmiths of the day, including Gary Usher, Gary Paxton and Carol Connors.
