Various - The Folk Awards album flac

The Anthology of American Folk Music is a six-album compilation released in 1952 by Folkways Records (catalogue FP 251, FP 252, and FP 253), comprising eighty-four American folk, blues and country music recordings that were originally issued from 1927 to 1932. Experimental film maker Harry Smith compiled the music from his personal collection of 78 rpm records. The album is famous due to its role as a touchstone for the American folk music revival in the 1950s and 1960s

The Folk Awards gathers a talented assortment of folk artists currently recording in the British Isles. Several, like Norma Waterson, Martin Carthy, and Bert Jansch, have been on the scene since the '60s, while e2K, Kate Rusby, and Bill Jones are relative newcomers. The styles also run the gamut from more traditional artists on record labels like Topic to contemporary Celtic performers on labels like Green Linnet. However, the other gender is given its due, with excellent tracks from Roy Bailey and John Tams. The album also includes two instrumental tracks, Michael McGoldrick's "Lough Mountain" and Catriona MacDonald's "Shetland Reels," and a nod toward the roots of English folk with the Copper Family's "Spencer the Rover. The Folk Awards offer samples from 16 artists, providing a perfect way to discover which artists and styles suite the individual listener.
