Back on Top is a 1968 album by the all-male group The O'Jays, featuring their biggest hit for the Bell label, "I'll Be Sweeter Tomorrow (Than I Was Today)". Their hit "Look Over Your Shoulder" was also included on this album. George Kerr produced the album with Pat Jaques engineering. Richard Tee was the conductor and arranger. Original O'Jays members Eddie Levert, William Powell, Walter Williams and Bobby Massey all contributed to this album, and all four were pictured on its cover.

The O’Jays rekindle the spirit - and the sumptuous sound - of Philadelphia soul in the Seventies on new single I Got You. The song will appear on The Last Word, which the group says will be their final LP. I Got You offers a message of reassurance in a time of political tumult: Even if the sky begins to fall, and even if they try to build that wall, and even if the bomb goes off and the world is set on fire, I got your back. The album includes contributions from the songwriter Sam Hollander - known more for pop and rock hits like Panic! at the Disco’s High Hopes - and Betty Wright, another Seventies soul hit-maker. The O’Jays’ last non-Christmas album, Imagination, came out in 2004. In This Article: The O'Jays. Want more Rolling Stone?

The O'Jays success was not confined to the United States, as they also logged up nine hit singles in the United Kingdom between 1972 and 1983, including four tracks that reached the Top 20 in the UK Singles Chart. Their 1987 album, Let Me Touch You, was a breakthrough of sorts, and included the R&B hit "Lovin' You". Though they continued charting on the R&B charts in the late 1980s and early 1990s, the O'Jays never again achieved pop success. In 1992, Sammy Strain left the group, and returned to the Imperials, to be replaced by Nathaniel Best, and later,.
Although The O’Jays Philly International recordings are always touted as some of their best work, we love this early material produced by George Kerr – with a sound that’s very similar to classic New Jersey groups like The Moments and The Whatnauts (and which also features a few songs that were covered by those groups, too)
