So it should surprise no one that Gaiser's debut, BLANK FADE, revels in its minimalism, introducing elements ever-so-slowly, while amping up the reverb and the delays. After an abstract start with "Volve," the rhythm finally reveals itself in "Face Down," accompanied with disembodied vocal snippets. A bass tone growls into "Ground" and "Ciliate With" brings in high blippery.

Gaiser - Blank Fade Largely responsible for the minimal boom that controlled clubland for much of the past five years, M nus is now a victim of their own success. The ubiquity of their dry and tidy productions, and the spawn of countless lesser facsimiles, soon had the world tired of it, prompting the current-also tired-deep house backlash, and possibly a re-evaluation of their own place in all of this

Album · 2008 · 14 Songs. Blank Fade (Complete Album Mix).

On his debut album, Gaiser's combination of minimal techno and what might best be described as early Pole without the dub makes for an enjoyable if initially slightly fussy listen.

His highly anticipated debut album, Blank Fade, is no exception, and it sees him pushing the envelope even further resulting in the most comprehensive and impressive body of work he has accomplished so far. Alongside this he has taken full advantage of the vinyl, digital and CD formats on offer to not only produce a collection of stunning individual tracks but also to mix them together in a way that typically reflects his live performance. The main premise for the album is to start in one place and end up in another without realising and seeing how Gaiser’s music works like a soundtrack to some hidden nocturnal habitat, full of weird and wonderful creatures that stalk the darkness, it’s not long before we’re lost in the forest of his imagination.

A bass tone growls into "Ground" and "Ciliate With" brings in high blippery. It an album of slow evolution, one track morphing into the next almost imperceptibly, picking up steam all the while. The intriguing "Comma, Fade" cycles its elements into a a stew that's a few blips short of funky, and "Leave It" ups the tempo considerably. "Trunkated" might even have a melody! And "Descending Order" definitely has one. See how much things change? "Outline" returns us to abstraction and wipes clean everything that's come before, not so much a fade as a disappearance.
