Strange Bedfellows: Comedy and Politics.

Strange Bedfellows is a 1965 American comedy film directed by Melvin Frank and starring Rock Hudson, Gina Lollobrigida, Gig Young, and Terry-Thomas. It was released by Universal Studios. A wealthy American (Hudson) and a bohemian Italian woman (Lollobrigida) meet in London, and impulsively marry. Then finding they have virtually nothing in common they separate. Seven years later, just days before the divorce is due to be finalized, they meet again and begin to rekindle the romance.

Politics makes strange bedfellows. Political interests can bring together people who otherwise have little in common. This saying is adapted from a line in the play The Tempest, by William Shakespeare: Misery acquaints a man with strange bedfellows. It is spoken by a man who has been shipwrecked and finds himself seeking shelter beside a sleeping monster.
