Pelican also announced new album was coming in 2019, and slated a new single from that album "Midnight and on the Stairs" for release on Record Store Day. Months later in April 2019, Pelican released the track "Midnight and Mescaline" for online streaming and formally announced their sixth studio album would titled Nighttime Stories and would be released. The Fire in Our Throats Will Beckon the Thaw (2005).

With their second album Pelican achieve new levels without changing structure or even sounding repetitive. The guitar tones within The Fire in Our Throats Will Beckon the Thaw are more natural pushed tube amp sounding, loud for that blast of power rather than the overdriven distorted sound from the Australasia album. Overall this produces a bigger guitar sound, perhaps less wall to wall than the previous Pelican full length album but no less forceful. The cover art work itself is very much nature focused too, only adding more emphasis to the general theme. Make no mistake, Fire In Our Throats is heavy, very heavy.

The Japanese version features a bonus disc including the "March Into The Sea" EP, a remix of "Angel Tears" by James Plotkin, and a demo version of the track "Sirius. These two tracks are also featured on the splits with Mono and Playing Enemy, respectively.

A plus: Unlike many instrumentalists, Pelican don't affix over-long e titles to their compositions. Besides the dorky album title (wait- you guys never speak, so we're gonna freeze forever? is that the hook?), they let their music do the talking. Song-by-song there's a tendency toward seasonal shifts and the sky: "Last Day of Winter", "Autumn Into Summer", "Aurora Borealis", and "Sirius". Those are the structures. It's more difficult explaining exactly what it actually sounds like. The heavier/murkier debut, Australasia, was certainly within that realm and fit the critical shorthand, but here the production's ultra clean (sorta pristine), the atmosphere's airy (check out those acoustic transitions), and the songs delve into poppier areas than anything they've done in the past.

Has anyone else been really disappointed with this repress? I think something went wrong at the factory with these. When i cleaned my new copy my brush came away with an incredibly thick layer of plastic dust the exact color of the discs. It is one of the worst sounding records I have. The surface noise is louder than the music. It doesn't skip, but I can hardly enjoy my favorite Pelican album. Oh but the wax is gorgeous.

I had a copy of the Orange edition come and it was covered in abrasive material that was so abrasive it scratched the actual vinyl when I removed it from the sleeve. I had to return it soon after I received it.

I second that - it sounds like the sleeves are full of this dust you mentioned and the records make awful squeaks when I take them in & out. Beautiful though indeed.

Yes, same here, also fav Pelican record. Got the black with blue splatter and have the same complaints that you mentioned. Maybe there is a problem with the colored vinyl?Has anyone heard the plain black pressing? If it's any better, I'll happily buy it.
