First came a reissue of Sebadoh III, then The Freed Man, and Bubble & Scrape. The reunion tour continued into 2008, and in May included a live performance of Bubble & Scrape (1993) in its entirety as part of the All Tomorrow's Parties curated Don't Look Back series at London's Koko venue. In 2011 Sebadoh toured in support of reissues for their Bakesale and Harmacy albums. On March 1, 2019 the band announced that their ninth studio album Act Surprised will be released on May 24, 2019 via Dangerbird Records Discography. Main article: Sebadoh discography.
Now, I'm sure you're wondering "Why is this asshole rambling about the obvious" Talk about the music!" Well I'm gettin' there. I only mention this because this album is really something special. Just look at how many tracks there are. Yup, 23 songs on one CD. Each song sounding similar yet increasingly different from the next. This album has extreme amounts of diversity. What possessed Lou Barlow of Sebadoh to do such a thing" Emotions, to put it simply
Sebadoh's third, at that time most "polished" album, isn't as universally influential as Nirvana's watershed; for cassette-trading zinesters like my teenage self, though, the scrubby Massachusetts trio nailed a perfect mussed, undeniably cynical, love-struck vibe. Hardly a lifer, I jumped ship after Lou Barlow's foil Eric Gaffney quit in 1994 before the release of 1994's Bakesale. The "classic lineup" fell apart with the departure of that bong-cracked noisemaker; as a result, Barlow's ballads felt too sugary and, well, ordinary. I remember seeing Sebadoh live at Maxwell's in Hoboken right around the release of III. Barlow had a big-ass pimple on his cheek, his guitar was held in parts by tape, and he was peddling Sebadoh shirts he'd made with magic markers. Between songs, he bent down and pressed play on a boom-box, launching pre-recorded salvos (including a "three is the magic number" sample): "Turning personal vendetta and small-minded revenge tactics into eventual cult status.
