Red Sails in the Sunset is the fifth studio album by Australian group Midnight Oil which was released in October 1984 under the Columbia Records label. It was recorded and produced in Tokyo, Japan and is significant for becoming their first No. 1 album in Australia – it also entered the United States Billboard 200. The cover image, by Japanese artist Tsunehisa Kimura, depicts Sydney Harbour after a hypothetical nuclear strike.

Black Sails in the Sunset was released on May 18, 1999 on Nitro Records. With the addition of guitarist Jade Puget as a permanent member, it is the first AFI album to feature the current line-up of the band. The album did not peak on any mainstream Billboard charts, however, it managed to peak at on the Top Heatseekers (Pacific) chart. Black Sails in the Sunset was received well by critics. The publication also went as far as to say that Black Sails is "their first epic.
