In essence, Paul McCartney wanted them to go back to their roots.

The film documents the group rehearsing and recording songs for their twelfth and final studio album Let It Be, in January 1969. The film includes an unannounced rooftop concert by the group, their last public performance. Released just after the album in May 1970, Let It Be is the final original Beatles release.

Rehearsals began at Twickenham Film Studios in London in January 1969 as part of a planned documentary film showing the Beatles preparing to return to live performance.

Lyrics to "Let It Be" song by The Beatles: When I find myself in times of trouble Mother Mary comes to me Speaking words of wisdom Let it be . .For though they may be parted there is Still a chance that they will see There will be an answer Let it be. Let it be, let it be, let it be, let it be Yeah, there will be an answer Let it be. Let it be, let it be, let it be, let it be Whisper words of wisdom Let it be. And when the night is cloudy There is still a light that shines on me Shine until tomorrow Let it be.
Let It Be looms large among '80s rock albums, generally regarded as one of the greatest records of the decade. So large is its legend and so universal its acclaim that all the praise tends to give the impression that the Replacements' fourth album was designed as a major statement, intended to be something important when its genius, like so many things involving the 'Mats, feels accidental
Both the Let It Be album and the US single "The Long and Winding Road" were released after McCartney's announced departure from and subsequent break-up of the group. In 1987, Let It Be was recorded by charity supergroup Ferry Aid (which included McCartney). It reached number 1 on the UK Singles Chart for three weeks and reached the top ten in many other European countries. The Lyrics of Let It Be
