Love means never having to say you're sorry" is a catchphrase based on a line from the Erich Segal novel Love Story and was popularized by its 1970 film adaptation starring Ali MacGraw and Ryan O'Neal. The line is spoken twice in the film: once in the middle of the film, by Jennifer Cavalleri (MacGraw's character), when Oliver Barrett (O'Neal) apologizes to her for his anger; and as the last line of the film, by Oliver, when his father says "I'm sorry" after learning of Jennifer's death

Lesson One: love means being sorry that you hurt the person you love. Looking back at the Love Story quote, I also think there’s a different way to reading it, and that is to give emphasis on the part that says: HAVING TO. What I’m trying to say is this: when you love someone, it might be the case that the person doesn't need you to apologize because he/she already understands that you didn't mean to do whatever it is you did (because if you actually meant to hurt him/her, you don’t deserve to say that you love them. hence you don’t technically have to apologize

You should never have to say sorry to someone you truly love because you should never say something or do something that upsets them(at least not on purpose). not until you feel you have done them wrong. and therefor never have to tell them sorry. and that all humans are flawed.
You can find the song if you only know parts of the song's lyrics. i've been looking for a song, for several years now. when i was jist shy of being a teenager, i knew it by heart, and forgot it when i grew up and life got in the way. it's a 90s country song, and i want to say that it was Lonestar but i'm lilely wrong about that. not during the chorus, but just before the first refrain, it says something about, "You were on your way up, as I was sinking down," or something like that. thank you.
