I was so pleased at discovering this album that I made a point of attending Stefan Grossman's performance at the Bethlehem Musikfest in 1986 or 1987 in the pouring rain

This is the fourth recorded collaboration between acoustic guitarists John Renbourn and Stefan Grossman, and as on its three predecessors, the appeal lies in the contrast between Renbourn's traditional British folk style and Grossman's jazz and folk-blues leanings. Ideally, as on "Rites of Passage" and "Keeper of the Vine," Renbourn concentrates on an intricate, folk-based pattern that Grossman decorates with bluesy embellishments.
John Renbourn (8 August 1944 – 26 March 2015) was an English guitarist and songwriter. He was best known for his collaboration with guitarist Bert Jansch as well as his work with the folk group Pentangle, although he maintained a solo career before, during and after that band's existence (1967–1973). While most commonly labelled a folk musician, Renbourn's musical tastes and interests took in early music, classical music, jazz, blues and world music.
