Flim & the BB's was a contemporary jazz band that was among the first bands to record albums digitally. Woodwind-player Dick Oatts was a featured guest on their first album before becoming a full member of the band.

Flim & The BB's were the very first contemporary jazz groups on CD. After making one of the first digital recordings ever (1978), the band went on to record five critically acclaimed discs for DMP. Tricycle, Tunnel, and Big Notes all won Digital Audio's "Jazz CD of The Year" award. It's really a beautiful album, I recommend it. One.

Released in 1991 (after Flim and the BB's had moved from DMP to Warner Bros. this best-of compilation spans 1982-88 and contains two previously unreleased tunes, as well as material that had already been heard on the DMP albums Neon, Tunnel, Tricycle, Big Notes and The Further Adventures of Flim & the BB's. Spyro Gyra was always the Minneapolis unit's primary influence, and it's hard to miss Spyro's influence on such congenial pop-jazz as "Heart Throb," "Just Another Beautiful Day" and "Light at the End of the Tunnel.

Flim and the BB's second album, Tricycle (for DMP Digital Music Products, an independent all-digital audiophile record label started by Tom Jung) was the first non-classical recording to be released in the new Compact Disc format. It was also the first jazz album to be recorded, mastered and delivered completely in the digital domain. After the release of their album The Further Adventures of Flim & The BB's they parted ways with DMP Records and signed to Warner Bros. They released their album New Pants in 1990 and followed with This Is A Recording in 1992. After that they were unceremoniously dropped from the label which led to the group breaking up.

Flim and the BB's "This Is A Recording" continues a long standing tradition of 4 immensely talented musicians who would come from the 4 corners of the . Never a dull moment on the record. Also, the theme song for the soap "All My Children" is here for you, but if you don't like soaps, don't let that deter you from enjoying the album. Coolest cut by far is "New Snow".

Flim & the BB's are a contemporary jazz band that formed in the late seventies and are the first jazz band to appear on compact disc. The band's name comes from the nickname of Jimmy Johnson (bassist) and the initials of the other two members, Bill Berg and Billy Barber (musician) (Dick Oatts, a woodwind player, would join the group in 1984.
