Gin Blossoms is an American rock band formed in 1987 in Tempe, Arizona. They rose to prominence following the 1992 release of their first major label album, New Miserable Experience, and the first single released from that album, "Hey Jealousy". Hey Jealousy" became a Top 25 hit and went gold, and New Miserable Experience eventually went quadruple platinum; four other charting singles were released from the album

Gin Blossoms guitarist Doug Hopkins wrote this about his old girlfriend, with whom he was attempting to reconcile. Hopkins had a lot of personal problems and struggled with alcohol abuse. When the band recorded the album, Hopkins was in bad shape, so they fired him. After this became a hit, he got even more depressed and committed suicide on December 5, 1993. This was released as a single in July 1992 and flopped. A version of this was included on their 1989 debut album, Dusted, on San Jacinto Records. It was one of many Gin Blossoms songs re-recorded for their later albums. This was the first of five singles released from the album. A live version was included on the single for "Found Out About You" in 1994. The line "you can trust me not to think" was originally "you can trust me not to drink. Gin Blossoms vocalist Robin Wilson, who was tired of singing about drinking, asked Hopkins if he could change it.
