The Violent Sleep of Reason is the eighth full-length album by Swedish heavy metal band Meshuggah. It was released on 7 October 2016 on Nuclear Blast. This album was recorded live in the studio, simultaneously with all members, rather than recording each instrument separately as is more common for modern recording. The band announced the new album, its title, and track list via Blabbermouth. net and Revolver magazine on 5 August 2016.
The Sleep of Reason Produces Monsters (Spanish: El sueño de la razón produce monstruos) is an etching by the Spanish painter and printmaker Francisco Goya. Created between 1797 and 1799 for the Diario de Madrid, it is the 43rd of 80 etchings making up the suite of satires Los Caprichos.
Details have finally been revealed for Meshuggah’s eighth studio album! The Violent Sleep of Reason is set for release on Oct. 7! Meshuggah’s awesome discography is about to receive its first addition since Koloss hit shelves in 2012. The Violent Sleep of Reason will deliver 10 new tracks once the album drops this fall. There’s no word on when the record’s first single will begin streaming, but we can’t be too far off. Last year, guitarist Marten Hagstrom spoke about how he tends not to listen to music while working on a new record.
LyricsA Logical End.
The Swedish titans’ eighth LP, ‘The Violent Sleep of Reason’ shows little sign of slowing down or the taking of a collective breath after 25 years of releasing sonic gold. The uncanny rhythmic lunacy of Clockworks immediately lets us know we’re not safe. At all. Jens Kidman’s gritty, staccato barks stab when they want but the whispered mid-section of the record’s title-track welcomes one of a number of experimental flourishes. By The Ton’s sheer weight, meanwhile, is counteracted by the almost sloppy, punkish nature of the piece, where amid a loose attack of muted guitar you can hear Mårten Hagström and Fredrik Thordendal’s fingers sliding from the strings.
Sleep of Reason' is rich, enigmatic and full of yearning, evocative audio paintings. Album opener 'Undertow' sets out the record's intentions gloriously, its Berlin-era-Bowie sonics, electronic textures and explorative melody evoking a powerful mood that draws the listener in entirely. Sleep of Reason' is strongly informed by Stefanski's childhood in a British seaside town, the faded grandeur and aging population of which caused him to ruminate on mortality as a child. Parts of this album are about letting go of the worry of when something might. Those two DJs sit at either end of a wide axis that Raffertie straddles effortlessly. He’s made his most confident music to date for ‘Sleep of Reason,’ and there’s a sense here of a young master at work. There are few musicians out there capable of making a song like ‘Touching,’ which is about as deep as a song you can dance to gets.
