What separates the album from previous Luna product is not so much instrumental alterations as the newly unabashed sentimentality of Wareham's lyrics. The twelve songs find Wareham largely rhapsodizing about food, love, or both, with stanzas like "Salt and pepper squid/ And Singapore noodles/ I could look at your face/ For oodles and oodles," from "Renee Is Crying. With Romantica, Luna shows that they know their sound and their place: nothing too fancy, just solid, cheerful music for barbecue romance and driving with the windows down.

Romantica (Jetset) Even at its worst, a Luna album is good for at least one strumariffic pop tune. The utterly forgettable Days of Our Nights (1999) had "4000 Days" and nothing else. Of course the band is capable of the opposite, as their debut Lunapark and its follow-up Bewitched were magical documents of VU-inspired rhythmania. Lunapark was the debut album by indie rock band Luna. It was released in 1992 on Elektra Records. As the first musical outing of Dean Wareham since the disbanding of Galaxie 500, Lunapark set forth the new musical directions of Wareham and embraced a musical sound that would continue to evolve throughout Luna's tenure.
