Before forming a band for his post-KISS career, Frehley had previously done a solo album in 1978 which was the most successful of the Kiss Solo albums and laid the groundwork for Frehleys Solo career. During this Time Ace put together a band for his solo work, the original lineup consisted of Richie Scarlet on guitar, Will Lee on bass, and Anton Fig on drums.

Frehley's Comet is the second solo release from Ace Frehley, former lead guitarist of Kiss. It was the first album Frehley released after leaving Kiss in 1982. Anton Fig, who played drums on the album, also performed on Frehley's 1978 Kiss solo album, as well as Kiss's Dynasty and Unmasked albums. Rock Soldiers (5:05) - Frehley/Taylor. Into The Night (4:12) - Ballard. Something Moved (4:02) - Howarth. We Got Your Rock (4:12) - Frehley/Kupersmith.

When Ace Frehely left Kiss in 1982 after the release of their Creatures of the Night album (which he didn't even play on), the main reason for his departure was so he could pursue a solo career. Nobody could have predicted that it would take Frehely five long years to issue his first solo album outside of Kiss, 1987's Frehely's Comet. Frehely's 1978 Kiss solo album was perhaps the best of the bunch, spawning the Top 20 hit single "New York Groove" and containing numerous guitar-fueled heavy metal highlights.
