Control is a 2007 British biographical film about the life of Ian Curtis, singer of the late-1970s English post-punk band Joy Division. It is the first feature film directed by Anton Corbijn, who had worked with Joy Division as a photographer. The screenplay by Matt Greenhalgh was based on the biography Touching from a Distance by Curtis's widow Deborah, who served as a co-producer on the film

ANTON CORBIJN: Yeah, it’s scary to see the Tea Party people. I think it’s good that politics are being discussed amongst everybody, you know. You limit your choices from the beginning. So I don’t bring a lot of lenses, cameras, all these elements that can help the picture. You confine yourself to, say, one room and you just make it work. You become very creative in that little space.

Music from the Motion Picture is an album by 10,000 Maniacs. The album, their first full-length in 14 years, contains eleven original songs. This album is the first to feature guitarist Jeff Erickson since he took over for Robert Buck following his death in 2000, and the first Maniacs album to feature Mary Ramsey without her longtime music partner, John Lombardo.

Control, Corbijn’s debut feature film, opens in New York on October 10th and in . What was your impression of Ian when you first photographed him? He was somebody who kept a bit to himself, I thought, but very friendly, and the second time I met him he was a bit more distant, but that was very close to his suicide. I didn’t speak English very well then and of course I had a bit of an accent, so we didn’t have lots of conversation. That was not really my goal, to make it relevant to anybody in that sense. It’s a film about a boy; it’s a dramatic loss story and you go with him from the age of seventeen to twenty-three. He happens to become the singer of Joy Division, so Joy Division plays a part of the film. And Joy Division music is quite simple music, but it’s very hauntingly beautiful and it’s quite timeless, so if you like music, I think you’ll come away with a lot of the band.
