Leslie West (born Leslie Weinstein; October 22, 1945) is an American rock guitarist, vocalist, and songwriter. He is best known as a founding member of the hard rock band Mountain. In 2014, Johnny Ramone has called him, "one of the top five guitar players of his era". West was born in New York City, to a Jewish family. He grew up in Hackensack, New Jersey, and in East Meadow, New York, Forest Hills, New York and Lawrence, New York. After his parents divorced, he changed his surname to West

Mountain is the debut album by American rock guitarist and vocalist Leslie West, released in July 1969 by Windfall Records. Mountain is West's first solo album after several years spent as a member of the Vagrants. The album was recorded with bassist and producer Felix Pappalardi, who shortly after formed the band Mountain (named after the album) with West; this has given it the reputation of being the band's first album.

It's actually a Leslie West solo album (fresh out of a New York band called The Vagrants, who apparently didn't have much success outside of New York City), with Felix Pappalrdi participating, and a different drummer, with no Steve Knight. It's a bit strange that it sounds like Mountain and it doesn't at the same time
