Alone with Everybody is the first solo album by English singer-songwriter Richard Ashcroft, released via Hut Records in June 2000 (see 2000 in British music). The songs "A Song for the Lovers", "C'mon People (We're Making It Now)" and "New York" were initially recorded with the Verve for their 1997 album Urban Hymns, but were never released. Upon its release, critical response to Alone with Everybody was generally positive.

Alone With Everyone comes on the heels of the departure of Richard Ashcroft from the legendary band The Verve. The Verve put out some of the best modern psychedelic music I have come across in a long time, so it's no great surprise that the music found here is as full, rich, textured, and lush as anything he did while with the band. though this body of work more closely resembles the final release from the group's Urban Hymns then. any of the previous early albums. Being a solo effort was not lost on Richard, he has taken the time to make this release his and his alone. Alone With Everybody is a poem from his collection of poetry entitled Love is a Dog from Hell, published in 1977, the title would imply an individual feeling alone in a crowd, or that everybody is actually alone. His first solo album completes that transition, kicking off with the grandiose AOR of A Song for the Lovers before melding lovestruck optimism and gliding melodies into tender country-soul ( You On My Mind in My Sleep, Brave New World ) and rousing, windows-down pop ( C’mon People (We’re Making It Now), Crazy World ). Strings, slide guitar and brass dominate, but New York ’s swirling guitars will satisfy those who still miss The Verve

Anyone who says this is Middle of the Road is really not listening, because Ashcroft is easily being innovative on this record the same way the Verve were. Check out the incredibly 'out there' New York, with heavy hitting riffs and interesting back drop noises. At it's best moments, "Alone With Everybody" is pure genius but these moments are fleeting. Enjoyable if your in the right mood, calm, chilled, stoned but lacking energy in too many places.
