Memphis Beat is an album by Jerry Lee Lewis released on the Smash label in 1966. More than half the songs on Memphis Beat were recorded on January 5 and 6, 1966 at Phillips Studio in Memphis. The remaining selections were taken from a rare New York City session eight months earlier and Lewis's earliest sessions at Smash in 1963. The album includes a rare Lewis original called "Lincoln Limousine," a garbled tribute to John F. Kennedy

Memphis Beat centers on Dwight Hendricks, a quirky Memphis police detective with an intimate connection to the city, a passion for blues music and a close relationship with his mother. Just finished watching the first episode of this show and I gotta admit I really enjoyed it. Admittedly it doesn't bring anything particularly new to genre but the characters are well written, the acting was solid and the story was good. My love of Jason Lee will always be higher than my dislike of Squalls. Oh, and the whole Singer By Night thing is fucking key. I REALLY want to hit up memphis, nashville and new orleans for their music scene. So very badly do i want to spend a week in each town. I loves me some blues, jazz and bluegrass.
Actually, "Drinkin' Wine, Spo-Dee-O-Dee," "Just Because," and "Hallelujah, I Love Her So" were three-years-old at the time of their release on this album in 1966, but the rest was new material featuring this band, most of it offering more drive and raw excitement - especially in the title track, especially written for Lewis - than anything.
