Shadows is Canadian singer Gordon Lightfoot's fifteenth original album, released in 1982 on the Warner Brothers Records label. It peaked at on the Billboard charts. The album marked another significant turning point in Lightfoot's musical evolution. He moves further away from his acoustic roots through greater use of synthesisers and electric organ.

He came to prominence in the 1960s, and broke through on the international music charts in the 1970s with songs such as "If You Could Read My Mind" (1970), "Sundown" (1974) and "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" (1976).

Canadian singer-songwriter Gordon Lightfoot, who turned 80 last November, is writing songs for the first time in years, with a new album on the horizon. In an article published in Toronto’s City News, Lightfoot said that he’s quit smoking and that action rekindled his interest in songwriting. He said that the new album, his first in 15 years, will be out later this year or in 2020. Some of the songs, he said, were written and recorded years ago but he’d forgotten about them until he came across some homemade CDs while housecleaning.
