Nash the Slash performing at The Venue in London in 1981. Nash also played on three songs by Toronto group Drastic Measures for their self-titled album, including violins on their signature tune, a cover version of the children's song, "The Teddy Bears' Picnic". Nash's label, Cut-throat Records, later issued a single by the group, the only other artist to appear on his label, although Nash was not involved in its recording. A distribution deal was signed with Artoffact Records in Toronto in early 2015 to release all six of his albums from the 1980s - Bedside Companion, Dreams and Nightmares, Children of the Night, the rare and previously commercially unreleased live album Hammersmith Holocaust, Decomposing as well as And You Thought You Were Normal?.
The album's music was written and performed for film and painting exhibitions, including "Un Chien Andalou," composed as a soundtrack for a 1928 silent film made by Luis Bunuel and Salvador Dali. The music "is not a reflection of current musical trends either by Nash The Slash or any other violinist living or dead," Nash explains. Instead of Side One and Side Two, the LP liner notes list Left Side and Right Side (of the brain?). Perfect sounds for a dark and stormy night.
Album · 2016 · 8 Songs. More By Nash The Slash. See All. And You Thought You Were Normal.
Artoffact AOF 205. 12 inch Vinyl Single.
The second CD is Bedside Companion, an EP that Nash released in 1978, while claiming that it was the first EP ever that could be played at two speeds (45 and 33 1/3). On this CD, both speeds are included so that the EP is expanded to eight tracks. Includes unlimited streaming of Dreams And Nightmares via the free Bandcamp app, plus high-quality download in MP3, FLAC and more. Nash the Slash's debut 1979 album Dreams and Nightmares is new-wave horror-punk-lover gold. Featuring a 10 minute soundtrack to the 1929 silent surrealist short film Un Chien Andalou (which he first debuted at the Roxy Theatre in Toronto on March 17th, 1975), the album clocks in at 43 minutes.
Complete your Nash The Slash collection. on the back, the texture of the insert (rough or plain matte), and the mastering. What I presume to be the earlier pressing was mastered at JAMF (has JAMF stamped into the deadwax), while the other was mastered at The Lacquer Channel (TLC or TLC-A etched into the deadwax).
Happy birthday Nash the Slash. Today you would have turned 68. We remember your incredible passion and creative spirit, making music that has truly stood the test of time. Artoffact will reissue CD and vinyl remasters of Nash’s first record, Dreams & Nightmares, as well as his most popular full-length Children of The Night, the super-rare live album Hammersmith Holocaust, and the EP Bedside Companion. Long-time Nash admirer Gary Numan has penned the liner notes for Hammersmith Holocaust.
