Starcastle is a progressive rock band from Champaign, Illinois. Formed in 1969, the group played many shows under the names Pegasus and Mad John Fever before eventually settling on Starcastle. They inked their first record deal with Epic Records and received extensive airplay and frequently played in the St. Louis area.
Citadel is the third studio album by American progressive rock band Starcastle. It is the second of two Starcastle albums to be produced by Roy Thomas Baker, who produced many of Queen's albums. All songs written by Starcastle. Side 1. "Shine On Brightly" - 5:14. Shadows Of Song" - 5:08. Can't Think Twice" - 3:51. Wings Of White" - 4:48. Side 2. "Evening Wind" - 5:27. Change In Time" - 4:31. Could This Be Love?" - 3:23. Why Have They Gone?" - 6:53. Terry Luttrell - lead vocals.
Citadel" is STARCASTLE's last worthwhile album, but of course, start with their first two albums first. On Citadel, Starcastle feels somehow more at home than they did on the previous Fountains Of Light which to me is best viewed as a transitional album between the Symphonic Prog of the debut and the more Prog related AOR style showcased here. The universally made comparison with Yes is definitely less natural here, and it would be better to compare the music on Citadel with that of other American bands like Saga, FM, and Kansas of the late 70's/early 80's.

Unlike any Yes album, every Starcastle album commits the one unpardonable sin for a progressive rock band: no drama. Compared to Terry Luttrell, Jon Anderson sounds like Lemmy. The music has lots of texture, but no weight. This was my first Starcastle album and I played it nearly every day when it came out on record. I was delighted to find this CD version.
