The David Lee Roth Band was an American rock and roll band, formed in Pasadena, California in 1985 by Van Halen frontman David Lee Roth. Originally featuring a supergroup line-up of guitarist Steve Vai, bassist Billy Sheehan, and drummer Gregg Bissonette, the band released numerous popular songs and albums from the mid-1980s until the late 1990s.

The best jazz guitar albums are up there with any other jazz classics you can think of. These 75 feature essential work by groundbreaking musicians. Prior to Christian, it was Eddie Lang, a brilliant and sophisticated player, who helped to make jazz guitar more popular. Others, like Freddie Green, who played with Count Basie for decades, and Lonnie Johnson, who played with Louis Armstrong, helped to popularise the instrument. In Europe, Django Reinhardt played single-line melodies that gave the guitar more visibility, casting a huge influence on many jazz guitarists that that followed. Fender made the first solid-body electric guitar in 1948 and, a few years later, Gibson introduced their Les Paul. Many jazz guitarists in the 50s, as well.

The first's soothing, interweaving guitar harmonies presaged Vai's Joe Satriani-inspired solo work while the latter finally explodes in the over-the-top fashion of the first album, largely thanks to a Vai solo so fast, so hot not even he could keep up, momentarily losing his fingering in the album's only spontaneous moment.

All by Contemporary Records who also recorded a BK album in late 1957, but didn’t release it until 1962 (LET’S COOK); probably to make way for the Poll Winners series. DWHEELSONE says: at. In this Folk Fingerstyle Module I hope to give you all the tools you need to go forth and explore fingerstyle guitar (using fingers to pick out notes individually rather than strumming with a pick). It's based on Folk style songs and patterns but they apply across many related styles and is a great foundation for anyone that wants to get into finger picking in any style.

Last year brought us a shiny new Van Halen album - the first, in fact, to feature David Lee Roth behind the mic since 1984. That means the bar was set pretty high for 2013 - at least in terms of major rock events. Luckily, Black Sabbath came along with a killer of a reunion album (OK, partial reunion) called 13, the band's first studio release to feature Ozzy Osbourne since 1978. Truth be told, 2013 was a fairly strong year for guitar-centric releases. We got to hear new riffs and/or blinding runs by guys named Tony Iommi, Joe Satriani, Guthrie Govan and John Petrucci. Look out for our upcoming year-end lists of 2013's best reissues/box sets/archival releases, plus rock books and more.
