Frédéric Chopin’s waltzes are pieces of moderate length adhering to the traditional 3/4 waltz time, but are remarkably different from the earlier Viennese waltzes in that they were not designed for dancing but for concert performance. Carl Maria von Weber's Invitation to the Dance was an early model for Chopin's waltzes.
Waltzes - No. 14 in E minor Op. 15. Sonata for Piano No. 3 in B minor Op. 58 - I. Allegro maestoso. Sometimes, falling victim to a cliché can be unavoidable: Witold Malcuzynski, born 1914 in Warsaw, who can be regarded as one the greatest heir of the Polish piano tradition inherited from Paderewski, was also one of the greatest Chopin specialists which is reflected in his discography and therefore in this ICON set. But despite of his great predecessor, he introduced objectivity in this tradition, a kind of disdain for rubato, an art of precise phrasing which can be observed today in the art of a Krystian Zimerman
